Unicode block

Superscripts and Subscripts

A limited collection of superscript and subscript digits, operators, and letters for plain text.

What this block contains

A limited collection of superscript and subscript digits, operators, and letters for plain text. The range U+2070–U+209F groups related encoded characters, but membership in the same Unicode block does not guarantee that two glyphs share a mathematical meaning, font design, or input method.

Code point range

U+2070–U+209F

Examples

Copy an example as text, then verify its code point and accessible name in the destination. Do not identify a character only by appearance: font fallback can make different code points look almost identical.

Notes

  • The block does not contain every letter.
  • Structured equation formats are preferred for complex scripts.

Publishing checklist

  • Preserve the original Unicode code point instead of converting the glyph to an image.
  • Use LaTeX or MathML when the character belongs to a structured expression.
  • Test the chosen font, copy-and-paste result, search behavior, and screen-reader pronunciation.
